“If somebody said that 50 per cent of training was taken up with fitness, they would say we were wasting our time,” says Stuart Wardle, Norwich City HC’s captain.
A former Premier League football head physio with Norwich City FC, Wardle has been hailed for taking the hockey club to the Conference leagues for the first time after fitness was put as a key requirement into the squad’s weekly training programme.
Norwich have started life in the Men’s Conference Midlands in decent fettle too and currently sit third after four games, with seven points. It has taken over 30 years for the club to get to this point, but the fitness regime can’t be underestimated.
