A hockey club is among good causes to benefit from thousands of pounds in grant funding in the Norfolk area.

Breckland Council has shared nearly £60,000 among 15 community and sporting groups across its district to fund new intiaitives.

In the case of Dereham Hockey Club, £5,000 was awarded to plant shrubs and hedging around its boundary area to reduce noise and light pollution.

Alison Webb, executive member for health, leisure and communities, said: “We are delighted to support a wide variety of community, environmental and sports projects.

“They will make a real difference to our residents’ lives every day.”

In 2018 the mid-Norfolk sports club put in plans to sell off its car park to develop homes as part of an initiative to help fund its astroturf replacement.

The pitch was nearly 20 years old and far exceeded its 15-year usage.
