Packed stands, party atmosphere, drinks flowing and the hustle and bustle of young hockey fans is what springs to mind when I think of club hockey here in the Netherlands.
The advantage of having over 200,000 hockey players in a small-sized country can be seen as the half-time pitch invasion begins as soon as the hooter sounds during a top men’s or women’s game.
Parents and kids of all ages and sizes make their unrestricted way onto the pitches with hockey sticks and balls in hand – a real family affair. Most looking to replicate what their heroes have just done for the last 35 minutes. So amazing to witness!
