Christian Battye is in charge of an international group of players at Chesterfield hockey club. The first team coach has two Australians and a Mexican playing for him this season as the club looks to bounce back from their relegation from the Yorkshire & North East Premier Division last year.
The team, which is made predominantly of 15 to 17 years olds, have won six out of seven matches this season – including racking up 16 goals in their last two matches – but Battye insists that the rebuild is all about taking it a game at a time.
That rebuild has been aided by a club ethos of inclusivity, which has helped his international stars settle in and for the youngsters to go out and express themselves on the pitch.
