Last season’s champions across the men’s and women’s Premier Divisions continued to exert their authority at the weekend.

Old Georgians proved the biggest winners, courtesy of fruitful double header victories, with Sam Ward netting six goals across two games.

He first scored all four in Old Georgians’ 4-2 win over Wimbledon at St George’s College, before a brace against University of Exeter in an 8-2 thumping, with Scot Lee Morton netting a hat-trick.

Old Georgians opened up a two-point gap at the top of the Men’s Premier Division after eight rounds and remained unbeaten alongside Surbiton, who have drawn two.

One of those came on Saturday as Surbiton let slip a 2-0 lead after Dave Goodfield’s  brace before Hampstead & Westminster rallied to snatch a point through Marc Edwards and Hywel Jones.

Following their first defeat of the season 24 hours earlier, Wimbledon finished the weekend in third place as they scored a 6-1 victory on the road at Oxted. Reading are now in sixth spot after a 1-0 win over East Grinstead at home.

Holcombe continued their good form as Nick Bandurak scored a hat-trick of PCs as Brooklands Manchester University were soundly beaten. The Medway side are in fourth, three points behind Surbiton.

In the Vitality Women’s Premier Division, the standout clash on Saturday left Surbiton five points clear at the top following a 2-0 win over Hampstead & Westminster at Paddington Rec. Steph Elliott scored in the opening skirmishes before Sophie Hamilton, facing sister Olivia for the second time in the top flight, netted in the 24th minute.

Wimbledon are in second place after picking up a point away at Beeston after a 0-0 draw.

Meanwhile, Lyndsey White’s double saw Buckingham to their first points of the season at the eighth time of asking, while Clifton Robinsons lost to their third university team of the season, going down 2-1 at home to University of Nottingham.
