England Hockey Premier Division: Top six places up for grabs

With the top five all but settled in the Men’s Premier Division, all eyes are on the sixth spot race with two games remaining before the winter break.

Oxted hold the aces in sixth ahead of their away trip to Hampstead & Westminster on Saturday evening, as the Surrey side aim to reach the top six since their rise to the Premier Division.

Reading and Beeston are one point behind Oxted and will be eager to make hay on any slip ups.

If these clubs fail to win, it could leave the door ajar for University of Exeter, East Grinstead or University of Nottingham, the latter two playing each other on Saturday.

Meanwhile, leaders Old Georgians travel to Surbiton in a blockbuster top of the table clash at Sugden Road. OGs, four unbeaten against Mark Pearn’s side, head the standings by two points over Surbiton, with both sides unbeaten from nine games. Sam Ward heads into the match as the form man, with 21 goals already this season.

In the Vitality Women’s Premier Division, Clifton Robinsons are currently in sixth place and face a tough final two games in Hampstead & Westminster and league leaders Surbiton to cement their place.

Loughborough Students are in seventh and not out of the running just yet. They host fifth-placed Beeston.

Wimbledon remain the only team yet to experience defeat in the league. They take on East Grinstead on Saturday, the West Sussex will leapfrog the Londoners into second if they take the points.

Surbiton host University of Birmingham, who have yet to experience victory against the perennial champions.
