Bhubaneswar — Midfielder Zach Wallace has been hailed as the ‘Michael Jordan of hockey’ by David Ames after England bounced into the men’s World Cup quarter-finals, his captain admitting that he is now one of the best in the business.
England beat Spain 4-0 in their last group game in Bhubaneswar to set up a likely last eight meeting with Germany or France next week. First half goals from man of the match Phil Roper and David Condon, coupled with two quick-fire strikes from Liam Ansell and Nick Bandurak saw England to their third clean sheet.
The squad, added Ames, was gelling so well that this campaign in India is proving a “special moment” in what is likely to be the 33-year-old’s last World Cup.
