New York Islanders general manager Lou Lamoriello always had Bo Horvat on his radar. During Lamoriello’s press conference following the announcement of Horvat’s eight-year extension, he had this to say about the 27-year-old forward.
“We know a lot about him. He played in London [Ontario]. We scouted him a lot when he was a junior, we interviewed him,” Lamoriello said. “So, we’ve got a little history going back there.”
One person that may know a bit more about Horvat is former New York Islanders centerman Travis Green, who coached the newest acquisition from 2017-2022 in Vancouver.
Green took the time to hop on the latest edition of Hockey Night in New York to share his thoughts about Horvat and what Islanders fans are getting.
“I feel like I can go on and talk about him for a long time. You’re getting a really good hockey player. I think he’s a young man that’s really coming into his own,” Green said. “We said it for a while in Vancouver, Bo seems to get better every season. I don’t even think he’s maxed out yet as a player.”
Horvat has 31 goals and 23 assists in 49 games this season.
“He’s maturing into a player that we always envisioned him to be, a guy that can really do anything that you ask him to do on the ice,” Green said. “I think the great part about Bo Horvat, though, is that he’s an exceptional, an even better person off the ice. He’s a fantastic individual. He was a joy to coach, and I’m happy for him.”
