ELMONT, NY — The New York Islanders found themselves down 1-0 to the Pittsburgh Penguins eight minutes into the contest. They had been heavily outshot over that span and had not been able to get many shots towards Penguins netminder Casey DeSmith.
But less than two minutes later, Mathew Barzal picked off a Penguins pass in the offensive zone and found Anders Lee wide-open in front.
At first, Lee was stoned by DeSmith, who laid flat on his stomach to cover the puck after losing it.
However, the puck wasn’t under DeSmith. It was resting on top of him, in an area no one wants anything near, especially a puck or a stick.
Yes, use your imagination because you are right.
The referee hadn’t blown a whistle, and Lee found the puck on top of DeSmith. Like a golfer, Lee teed off a backhander into the Penguins net.
