Chesterfield HC have paid tribute to long-serving club member Dudley Stewart Walker, who died last month aged 86.

Walker was a regular fixture in Chesterfield’s teams for years and still turned out for the club in his 70s.

He wore a trademark red headband for his matches.

David Bell said: “Many fond memories of Dudley. A legend of the game whose eccentricities just made him even more endearing. A lovely guy.”

Christian Battye wrote on social media: “1st time I played with Dudley I must have been 12. We lost the game & afterwards I was having a sulk.

“He waited until I had finished throwing my toys before sitting with me & explaining it was only a game and there be more to come. That’s always stuck with me. Legend. RIP.”

A funeral Service to be held on March 6 at Gedling Crematorium, Nottingham at 1 pm.
