The Philadelphia Flyers were stuck in the middle for years: Too good to accumulate top prospects at the draft, but not good enough to win the Stanley Cup.
The Flyers entered the 2023 Draft with 10 picks, their most since 2016, and their second top-10 pick since 2015. With those picks, they did the usual Flyers thing: Picking a bit of everything. They added playmaking blueliners, shutdown defenders, flashy skill, hardnosed net-front scorers, and Matvei Michkov. You might’ve heard of him.
As a result, the Flyers move up from the No. 17 rank last year to the No. 4 rank with one of the sport’s most skilled, deepest pools with lots of NHL-ready options.
The Brière era is underway, and it’s fun.
