At the start of the 2018 season, Pete Bryant was just a parent watching from the side lines as his daughter Lola embarked upon her first season playing 1st team hockey at Bromsgrove Hockey Club. Now, five years on as the coach of Bromsgrove women’s 1s, he and his team had achieved promotion from the Midlands South West Division 1 — their fourth promotion since 2019.
The side endured a rocky start to the 2018 season, losing twice to their own 2nd team who resided within the same league. A string of unfortunate following results caused a resignation of the coach, Pete stepped in and focused on solidifying the team’s defence.
The side were able to turn it around and finished second in their league, losing out on top spot only on goal difference.
